Slack

Let's slightly increase the reach of the current Dask Slack workspace . I'm copying an invite link here. It will expire ~in 30 days~ after 2000 signups.

The goal here isn't to broadly publish this, but just to get a somewhat larger group of insiders and their direct contacts.

Edit by @jacobtomlinson : @quasiben created new link to not expire after 30 days

@mrocklin can I have an invite please?

@benydc you should be able to sign up using the link in the original post -- let us know if that's not the case

@jrbourbeau thanks for response, the above link it's showing as expired, including the one from #119

There seems to be a 30day expiry by default, and I don't know how to expand that. Does anyone else know how to make a long-lasting slack invite?

I created a link with no date expiration but I think it will expire after 2000 members sign up: https://join.slack.com/t/dask/shared_invite/zt-mfmh7quc-nIrXL6ocgiUH2haLYA914g

@martindurant the type of link Ben has posted is the maximum allowed by slack: never expires, good for up to 2000 people. I can generate these links too.

If you need admin permissions for the slack let me know, although I think you're probably good to go with Ben's link. You could close this & reopen a new slack issue if you don't want people to see the expired links first.

I've updated the original post by Matt to include the new link instead.

Slack seems to be doing ok? Perhaps we should add links to various Dask web resources. I would suggest both

  • The support page: https://docs.dask.org/en/latest/support.html
  • The sphinx theme under the Community header https://github.com/dask/dask-sphinx-theme/blob/5a9cff527acda2e6d94ab2e697e182848a293306/dask_sphinx_theme/layout.html#L77-L85

  • I'm about to add the slack link to the support page in the docs, but I was wondering in which area part do we want to add it? "Conversation happens" or "Asking for help" ?
  • I created a PR in the dask_sphinx_theme repo to add the slack to the community header. https://github.com/dask/dask-sphinx-theme/pull/51

I think "conversation happens" is better. Asking for help is directed towards StackOverflow (or GitHub issues if the thing is potentially a bug).

~We might want to add this to the issue templates as an external link too.~

I've added a link to the issue templates page in dask/.github#13
