Option to display banners on the side of grids.

Feature Description

With the recent addition of platform banners, I think it would be nice to have the option to display banners on the side of an image. This would mean orienting the banner to the left side of the grid image, with the bottom of the banner touching the edge of the grid image.

Having this option would be ideal for users who prefer to have their banners displayed less obtrusively for different aspect ratios. The calculations below may help to illustrate how the different orientations affect the most common grid aspect ratios.

Some quick maths for the default top placement:

• For vertical grids, top placement looks great as the banner takes up an unobtrusive 10% of the total space.

  • vertical image: 6:9 (600x900)
  • banner: 6:1 (600x100)
  • combined: 6:10 (600x1000)

• For square grids, top placement takes up about 14% of the space, which is larger than vertical grids, but still reasonably unobtrusive.

  • square image: 1:1 (1024x1024)
  • banner: 6:1 (1024x170.666...)
  • combined: 6:7 (1024x1194.666...)

• But for horizontal grids, top placement makes the banner take up around 26% of the total space, which is far from ideal.

  • horizontal image: 92:43 (920x430)
  • banner: 6:1 (920x153.333...)
  • combined: 276:175 (920x583.333...)

Vertical	Square	Horizontal

By placing banners on the side of an image:

• Vertical grids with side placement makes banners take up 20% of the total space, which is pretty obtrusive.
  • vertical image: 6:9 (600x900)
  • banner: 1:6 (150x900)
  • combined: 5:6 (750x900)
• Changing the orientation of banners on square grids doesn't change how much space they take up, so side-oriented banner placement still takes up around 14% of the total space.
  • square image: 1:1 (1024x1024)
  • banner: 1:6 (170.666...x1024)
  • combined: 7:6 (1194.666...x1024)
• Horizontal grids with side placement makes banners take up around 7% of the total space, which is very unobtrusive, taking the least amount of total space.
  • horizontal image: 92:43 (920x430)
  • banner: 1:6 (71.666...x430)
  • combined: 595:258 (991.666...x430)
