@johannlombardi this is basically your PR of the warmup plus @liuxuezhao addition of the bulk. i just merged them since they were very out of date into a new PR. I also removed the daos_init() changes since they are not required for this. please feel free to update your PR if you want to get that one in, or just approve this one.
