What is RX-Axis on oculus quest 2?

And the other R(y, z)-axes? I've never done anything like this before and need a lot of handholding.

These axis are vJoy axis. The overlay pretends to be a physical HOTAS device which you can bind to Elite Dangerous' HOTAS controls. Then you can use your controllers to grab the overlay's throttle and joystick and move them like you would a physical HOTAS.

You don't have to pay too much attention to the names. Just turn on menu mode + edit mode and navigate to ED's controls menu. The panel in front of you has all the axis the overlay uses with -1/+1 buttons that you can use to bind each axis to the associated ED binding.

I still don't understand... How can there be 6 different dimensions on one controller? Or are they L and R controls? And the U-Axis? I'm completely befuddled...

Basically a vJoy device has 9 analog axis (X,Y,Z,Rx,Ry,Rz,Slider0,Slider1,Wheel) that are similar to axis that HOTAS/wheel inputs may use. What exactly they are doesn't actually matter, just that through vJoy I have 9 analog axis I can output values to. And so if I output the joystick's yaw on one of them (e.g. Joy_X) and you bind that same axis to Elite Dangerous' ship yaw binding then the yaw of the joystick in the cockpit will control Elite Dangerous's yaw control.

You don't really need to understand. Because ED binds axis by having you move them when it asks what axis/button to use for a binding. So all you need to do is select the Yaw axis and when Elite Dangerous asks what axis to use for Yaw press the +1 button next to yaw (which will move the axis I use for yaw) and ED will use yaw from the overlay for that control.

Elite Dangerous has a bunch of axis you can bind (yaw/pitch/roll, throttle, thrusters x/y/z, sensor tuning, galaxy map yaw/pitch/zoom, galaxy map translation x/y/z, etc). I use 2 vJoy devices to control all of them with things you can grab in the overlay.

Yeah, but the thing is, I don't know how to move a controller through a dimension other than x, y, and z. That's what I'm confused about.

You don't move the controller through those directions. While you are in the cockpit your controllers are your hands.

The overlay provides a set of controls you can grab onto with your grip button and move. A throttle sitting about where the in-game throttle exists, which you can grab and move backwards/forwards to control the throttle axis. A joystick which when grabbed will take rotation from your controller and turn it into pitch/roll/yaw (if you rest your controller on your knee you can move it around like a real joystick). And when your landing gear is down there's a 6DOF controller which when grabbed will turn controller rotation into pitch/roll/yaw and can be pulled in the x/y/z directions to control the ship's thrusters.
