I get the same, but when using Google calendars "Secret Address in iCal format" - I get success... Obviously this is not 100% ideal, but works.
Restarting my VSCode many times did not help, however ReLOADING the window did with the command palette "Developer: Reload Window". Confirmed by changing the name of a valid file to...
