I am making this suggestion as I think it makes a lot of sense.
Need to test for and account for quasi-connectivity with pistons. Can probably reuse some code used for redstone lamps. Example of Jeb door provided by Caldoric.   
If i placed the redstone after the redstone on top i don't get rendered.  the other way around:

Just to get the full redstone experience, gravity blocks can be used in circuits as a pulse shortener. Slime blocks would allow us to make movable tiny structures.
