Converting file type
It would be great if it would become possible to upload the cropped image in a different file type compared to the original image. This would be useful if the filetype of the original image is not appropriate (e.g. PNG for photographs or JPEG or diagrams). --Leyo (on Commons)
I try to not clutter the UI with too much functionality, but perhaps this could be implemented by simply basing the filetype on the file extension entered in the "Upload as new file" text field. So if you enter "Example.png", the file is stored as PNG independently of what format the file originally was. But since the image is already cropped at this step in the workflow, it would have to be re-cropped if the format is different from the original format. Also, it should to fail if lossless cropping was used. I'm open to adding this, but I don't have time to do it right away.
