Change in release tag scheme is confusing

Hi! I see there has been a very recent change in ownership of this action. We started having issues recently with the git owner and seeing as that was resolved in 2.3.0, we are trying to upgrade but are running into the error in the title.

Looks like a mistake on our part where the tag requires v2.3.0. Given that previous versions were x.x, what is the reason to start using v and x.x.x tag scheme?
