Ability to cancel the tool when activated

What is your problem Essentially when one clicks the tool thers no easy way to cancel... (other than clicking with mouse)

Describe the solution you'd like The option to stop the tool, be it by pressing the down arrow, tab, esc, backspace, etc. Even a UI button bellow the letters would also help. Or including the original letter in one of the corners.

Could be done this way - display the original character (symbol) and you can select it.

Maybe it should be a red or bold "X" at the end of the line/box, instead of the original character/symbol, because it's easily recognizable as "exit"? It could even be kept separate from the other characters by a thin vertical line, like: é ē è ê | X That way even if the characters get rearranged from the "Sort by usage frequency" setting being on, the X would stand out and stay constant.
