Switch and Home Mode Updates

I noticed that the security sensors(contact, motion etc.) update "live" in the Home app, however lights, switches etc. do not. They are only refreshed when the home app is opened. Is there a reason why we can't have live updates for switches, home mode, lights etc. like we do with the sensors?
