Streamline Event Registration

Open damiant opened this issue 6 months ago • 0 comments

when i first sign up for a account, the thing i want to do is to create a event, not to "create a camp". i should be able to click a button to do that, which should have a list of existing camps, and a option to create a new camp if the camp i want isn't there. if i don't have permissions to create a event at a particular camp, it should tell me that when i try to create the event, rather than the current state where i can't tell if the camp i want to create a event in exists (without either looking at the app or knowing that the /camps/ url exists)

Notes:

  • It is misunderstood that an event can be registered at a camp you dont own. It seems that a lot of camps allow registration of public events, so instead of showing all the camps that you can register events at, instead just register an event and allow the location to be selected. If the event is for someone elses camp just email them to request permission.

"Want access to a theme camp, art or mutant vehicle? Please contact [email protected] or DM us and provide your camp/art name to request access." this seems not quite correct? as someone who "owns" a camp i can add email addresses, so it should probably tell you to reach out to the person who registered the camp as a first step. although even better would be a way so that camps can let anyone host a event there, but have the ability to moderate that before events actually show up in the schedule. in general this is in a weird in-between space right now between the fully anarchic anyone can register anything anywhere that a google form would be, and something that has a clear model of ownership and permissions. that makes it more difficult for people to create events than it needs to be for camps where multiple people are creating events.

Notes:

  • Can get rid of this copy if the flow requests permission from the camp owner and CC's the burn organizer.
  • May need some way of "not" approving an event at a camp in case camp owner ignores the email or is unresponsive.
  • May need to make the option of not accepting public events a clear indicator to the user that you can't add an event at that camp.

it's odd that there is a separate button to register a event at each different camp. it's also very strange that those buttons don't show up until you are a owner of a camp, or something? i actually don't understand what's going on here.

Notes:

  • Need to double check if this a bug, but essentially it should have a register event option that allows you to choose mobile/open camping or a camp/art piece
