In 14.01 whenever the printer was not connected and an SD card was presant the "Print with USB" button was replaced with the "Save to SD card" button. Since 14.03 the "Print with USB" button is always displayed even when no printer is connected. Windows 7 Proffessional 64bit

@daid : Remember, I had the same problem: http://umforum.ultimaker.com/index.php?/topic/4487-bring-me-your-bugs-cura-1402-rc2-ready-for-testing/page-10#entry42103 The 'solution' was to overwrite machineCom.py with the Git version.

Dim3nsioneer avatar Apr 10 '14 17:04 Dim3nsioneer

Struggling to find machineCom.py on github, which is still new to me. Could you help me out? Thanks

@paulmichael1084 : Have you recently installed the Arduino software?

Dim3nsioneer avatar Apr 11 '14 14:04 Dim3nsioneer

A few weeks ago yes, can't really remember if that and my issue coincided. You think this may be my problem?

@paulmichael1084 Maybe. The fact that we both had the same problem and we both have the Arduino sw installed asks a question... it might help @daid to find the source.

Dim3nsioneer avatar Apr 11 '14 16:04 Dim3nsioneer

good thinking. I'll try it on Monday morning (My printer is at work) Will keep you posted

Actually, the real question is, what is COM3 and where does it come from?

daid avatar Apr 14 '14 08:04 daid

COM3 is what my printer is connected to, not sure exactly what you mean by 'where does it come from'

Hi, I have been playing around with this since we spoke. And still the problem persists. I have uninstalled arduino and no effect. I've tried plugging the SD into different banks of USB ports on my PC. Any other ideas?

Reinstalling the newest Cura version didn't help either?

Dim3nsioneer avatar Apr 25 '14 07:04 Dim3nsioneer

The SD save button never shows, and has never shown if you have your printer connected with the USB cable.

daid avatar Apr 25 '14 07:04 daid

There is no printer connected to my PC. In the past with Cura I have had the printer connected and the button has changed just as it should. IE when no printer present it shows the SD card save option. I am running 14.03 and have done a check and it is indeed the latest version. I will try restarting my PC and seeing if it makes a difference.

Cura is still seeing the COM3 (which you say was your printer) so that's why it's not showing the SD button.

daid avatar Apr 25 '14 08:04 daid

I just restarted my PC with nothing USB connected except a wired keyboard, a wireless mouse, and my SD card reader. I also checked device manager and there is no COM3 listed, see attached picture. Any ideas where we can go from here?

@paulmichael1084 still no answer from you on my question five days ago...just for the case you expect some more assistance from me. Reinstalling Cura helped in my case.

Dim3nsioneer avatar Apr 30 '14 09:04 Dim3nsioneer

Sorry I missed the question! My apologies, what did you want to know?

I have un-installed Cura and done a new install. The 'Print with USB' button is no longer displayed. Instead it displays the usual 'Save' button. Still it doe snot detect the SD card and change to 'Save to SD card' as 14.01 used to do.

When you have the card reader plugged in, you may try to deinstall the device driver, unplug the card reader, plug it in again and let Windows perform a fresh installation of the card reader. Do you have Cura 14.01 still installed to cross-check if it does still change the button?

Dim3nsioneer avatar Apr 30 '14 14:04 Dim3nsioneer

Unfortunately I do not have 14.03 still installed. If you can send me a copy of the program I'll install it and run the test. I un-installed the card reader as you suggested, then re-installed. Not difference. I also tried a re-boot after this and still got no-where.

I'm also seeing the problem described here, with both 14.06 and 14.07 - the button always says "Print", and the first option in its right-click menu is "Print with COM26", which was the actual port number for the printer the last time it was physically connected to the computer (about 2 weeks ago). Windows XP, Arduino IDE installed.

jasonharper avatar Jul 07 '14 19:07 jasonharper

I had the same problem. Cura 14.12 Had disconnected the printer from the USB (COM4), but the save to SD card button didn't return. I also just installed the arduino software, however, this was the first time I'd connected the printer via USB so can't say if the Arduino software had any effect. I managed to fix it by going to File > Machine Settings, and changing the serial port to COM1, then back to AUTO again.
