Doesn't work with e10s (Electrolysis) -- multiprocess Firefox

Open dadler opened this issue 10 years ago • 5 comments

Thumbnail Zoom Plus doesn't work in Firefox Nightly (35.0a1) with Electrolysis enabled. It gets error when initializing and the add-on doesn't work at all.

The related Firefox APIs changed in Firefox 17 and Firefox 19, though they've been around in some form since Firefox 4.

According to latest stats (11-8-2014), 89% of users are on Firefox 30 or higher (30..34). 96.5% are on Firefox 19 or higher. If we stopped supporting older than 19, 3.5% of users would be stuck on the old version until they upgrade Firefox, which may be acceptable.

About 2% are on versions 17 and 18.

Is there an ETA for e10s support? Because TZP is the last add-on that prevents me from enjoying it and currently, trying to do so results in a nagging "TZP might make Nightly running slow" bar at the bottom..

I suppose this is why in Firefox 49+ this is listed as one of the "[MultiprocessIncompatibleExtensions]"? One of 15 extensions I have. Using TZP 4.0 btw.

TZP 4.0 (and perhaps older) doesn't support "pure" multi-process firefox but should work in Multi-Process mode using compatibility shims. That means you should be able to enable multi-process, but will see warnings in the console (mostly about "Unsafe CPOW Usage"). And you can't turn off extensions.interposition.enabled in about:config .

Sorry for being late and unaware, but what is a "shim"? Any translation into my mother tongue don't seem fit.
