It'd be nice if you could give us an update, it's been a long time. Folks over on the Plex forum and here on Github are wondering if this will ever be fixed, or if the project has been abandoned.

He has stated where he is at in some comments on some other issues, he intends to work on it but just hasn't had the time to finish. In the meantime, the solution I have found is to use an Add-On for Home-Assistant https://github.com/maykar/plex_assistant that can accomplish the same thing, but it takes a little more setup to get going like installing Home-Assistant first, I was just lucky that my home automation already was using Home Assistant.
