Some ad caches are not found

Open TheRealMystic opened this issue 2 years ago • 10 comments

On my phone, I use a file manager to access files from network connected devices. This is a OnePlus phone (rooted) with a built-in firewall feature provided by Oxygen OS.

Due to the need to access LAN, I have to allow the app to connect over WiFi. However, I have installed AFWall+ to allow connections only over LAN, and not using any other channel.

AFWall+ is a little buggy, and often shows an error in applying rules. It requires multiple attempts to enable it again and apply all firewall rules.

My guess is this file manager app managed to connect to internet during such an instance (AFWall+ error) and started showing ads.

Even though I have configured SD Maid to delete all ads, and AFWall+ is currently enabled, I'm unable to delete the ads on this app. I have tried force stopping this file manager app, deleted it's cache, ran SD Maid multiple times with root permissions, but that hasn't helped.

Please fix.

SD Maid can't disable ads.

SD Maid tries to delete some ad caches, if you can tell me the paths that are being missed, I can add them, any further automatic "ad detection" is out of scope.

I'm aware SD Maid can't disable ads, nor it is within its scope. But the existing ads should have been deleted.

I'm not sure if this is SD Maid's fault or AFwall+ fault. 🤔

This is the app I'm talking about: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alphainventor.filemanager

Im gonna test that app and report where it places the ad files

I'm inclined to believe that the fault is with AFWall+, i.e. it is 'leaking'.

I changed the Private DNS to dns.adguard.com and the app stopped showing ads.

Assuming you aren't using an ad blocker, the app is probably in a grace period, after which it is going to show ads. I don't know how long that is.

But you can keep that app installed. It is one of the best file managers available. Works flawlessly where others fail.

I don't have any AdBlock installed on my device and no, my wifi router doesn't block any URL or IP addresses, that kind of function is turned off.

But you can keep that app installed. It is one of the best file managers available. Works flawlessly where others fail.

I'll keep it installed for a while and use it until a ad shows, and thanks for a recommendation but i use MiXplorer for my everything file management on Android. Buggy but that some bug is ignorable

Yeah, that is a very good file manager, and the most customisable too. As you said, it has a few bugs, even if nothing serious. I have tried several different file managers, and i find myself naturally preferring ones that are most stable, even if at the sacrifice of a few features. This file manager ticks that box and whatever features it supports, it does them really well.

Weird, it's been like almost 1 day has been passed, still no ads, i cant reproduce this.

Apps would sometimes wait for a much longer time, such as a week or 2 weeks, before they start to show ads.

Or they wait for certain number of launches (this is a guess) before beginning to show ads.
