Update Rust "edition" to latest (2024)

Rust has a new "edition": 2024. This PR brings gorilla up-to-date.

How I did this

I followed this guide to do the update.

All tests passed at every step of the process, including at the end right before I submitted this PR.

Guidance for other maintainers

You probably want to run rustup update stable to get the latest version of Rust (v1.85.0 on my machine).

Note that there's no need to rush to the latest edition, so feel free to slow-walk this particular PR, especially if you're concerned about some checks/build processes failing before other systems update to the latest version of Rust.
