The Alias plugin gets deleted because of a cascade deletion triggered when the CMS deletes all plugins inside the draft page.
Unless this is a regression, I propose we leave any changes out of 3.4 and deprecate non-quote slot names in django CMS 3.5 to be removed on 3.6
