the same happens if py4cytoscape is installed and run locally (ie. host and not in a docker container)

I’m a little surprised that you’re running runalltests.bat, as that’s a Windows batch file … ??I think you’re running on a Mac?? If so, should there be a *NIX-appropriate script for runalltests? I have doubts that very much of runalltests.bat is running as intended … I’m not sure how Kozo is doing this … I think he has a Mac.

The app_* issues have been seen before … I think they’re a problem with CyREST and Cytoscape, and I think they’re reported as a bug for that team to prioritize. So … I won’t close this issue out until we get a viable combination of py4cytoscape and CyREST/Cytoscape.
