When I click on the button to download an excel file, it gets downloaded in my local disk, not in cypress/fixtures/downloadsFolder. help me please.

Please provide more details: are you using the recipe from this repo? Can you post the screenshots, files, details, test code? Can you give the repo with the reproduction? Without details we cannot help here

Restarting Cypress did the job for me.
