Balance incorrectly showing unspendable notification address amounts

Open maxtannahill opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

BIP47 specifies that notification addresses should never be spent from, only spent to which is why dust amounts are used here as they serve no purpose to spend from.

Both Sparrow and Samourai do not include the balance of the notification address dust in the total balance displayed to the user.

There are a few things to note here:

  • Stack Wallet gives you the option to show Full Balance and Available Balance. The unspendable notification address amounts are not shown in the Available Balance.
  • I agree with you in that the 546 sat notification address amounts should not be included at all in either the Full Balance or Available balance (shouldn't be shown in frozen outputs either, should not be shown anywhere like Samourai/Sparrow do)
  • Currently, Stack Wallet cannot "remember" if you've selected Available Balance, meaning you'll need to switch to Available Balance every time you open the wallet.

These are auto-frozen and hidden from the user. That said, I do not think it is wise to completely remove the ability to move this money around. Yes it's not advisable for privacy reasons, but that's why the option to do so is heavily hidden away behind many taps. But a user should still be able to do whatever they want with their funds.
