NEWS -> tags (create rich tags)

Is the scope

  • Creating a tag for the latest NEWS version granted that tag does not exist.
  • Creating a tag for all NEWS versions without a git tag? I guess not. If it were the case, one would need to look for commits "Bump the version to..."

how would these plain tags have been created in the first place? Does one of your repos have this problem?

Seen in https://github.com/ClaudioZandonella/trackdown, tags after v1.3.0 are missing.

Can we somehow leverage git praise -- NEWS.md to identify good candidates? The output could be a script that creates the tags, and also a shortlog of the 5 or so commits before or after the relevant change.
