How can I run OCR on an imported PDF?

I don't understand how OCR for imported PDFs works and the Support article for OCR doesn't explain how to use it. Can someone help me?

I've configured OCR Setup and downloaded the English language, then imported an image-based PDF (i.e. without any embedded text), but then how do I actually get it to process the PDF with OCR? The only options I can see to do anything is Scan or Save All. The PDF output from Save All doesn't have any selectable text.

I'm using v7.4.3.0 on macOS 14.5.

The PDF should be OCR'd when you save. Are you sure you selected the "Make PDFs searchable using OCR" toggle?

Hi,

Yes, I ensured that option had been selected.

Usually when this happens it's because the PDF actually has some text in it, though it may be hidden. Do you have a sample PDF with the issue you can attach?
