Custom button backgrounds go transparent after updating HA core to 2025.5.1

Hi, I’ve just found that after updating HA core to 2025.5.1 or 2025.5.2 from 2025.4.4 my custom card buttons have transparent backgrounds not color as normal. Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas to fix this? Rolling back to 2025.4.4 returned everything to normal. Any help with this would be appreciated. Currently Core 2025.4.4 Supervisor 2025.05.1 OS 15.2 Frontend 20050411.0

By no means an expert, in fact I am hitting your page because I am trying to solve some transparancy issues myself.

But what is in your example, the difference between the buttons for Caroline's lamp and Rob's lamp? And the same for All Office lights and All bedroom lights? Because in each case, one seems to go transparant and the other one does not,

Sorry may not have been clear in my first post. After core update (2nd screenshot) Caroline's lamp and all the ones with transparent backgrounds are OFF the light blue ones are ON. In the first screenshot (before update), background is darker blue for OFF and light blue for ON. Hope this makes sense.

Ah, so if I understand correctly.. after the HA update, the button background is transparent when the state of the light is 'off' ?

The images you provide are confusing because not everything that was dark blue in the first image becomes transparant in the second image. (family room, ceiling lights (office) .. those go from darker blue to light blue in second image)

While none of the buttons that are darker in the first image go transparent; only some of the ones that are lighter in the first image become transparent.

I don't want to waste your time, sorry I do not know the answer. But if the style or button_template or theme are different between some of those buttons.. I would start looking at those. (I have buttons in a picture element card that I want to go transparent, but sometimes they would not... it was an issue with the color_type in one of the button templates.) If between your first image and your second image you have switched/pushed some of the buttons (turned on or off lights) and not other lights.. then its very hard for other people to see what's going on.

Hi, the likely change is that with 2025.5, paper CSS variables were removed. Its likely that your theme uses these and they need to be updated. There is a good community post that outlines the changes.
