Request for Documented API

I am interested in using the code inside another C++ program and was wondering if there is a documented API on how to do this. I'm hoping that someone else has done something like this already. I want to compile the tool as a library and want to know which headers to include for basic functionality, as well as and explaination of the format for input and output.
