Add Linux Support for Large Population of Aging Macs

Open HookedOnTech opened this issue 3 years ago • 7 comments

Hi. Please consider adding support for personal computers running Linux. For example, I am running Linux Mint on my old 2012 Mac Pro desktop. I am forced to run Linux on this Mac because it is too old to run the latest operating system and many of the apps I have used for years. I was running Macs Fan Control on this Mac Pro until I was forced to switch.

I think it is important to keep in mind there are a lot of Mac users who are using older Apple hardware. As Apple continues to stop supporting us, we are forced to either buy new hardware, switch to Windows or install Linux on our Macs. Installing Linux on my Mac Pro has given it an entirely new life. The computer hardware is built to last. I expect it to get several more years of life out of it while running Linux since the OS receives full support including security patches.

I will not close this, but we don't have enough resources for a linux build at the moment unfortunately.

Glad to see you received my request and are not going to close this. If you decide to build for Linux I am happy to help. Currently, I can help with test using; usability analysis, and user interface design. Thanks for the reply.

I would like to add to this feature request to include new Mac Pro's, as well (ie, 2019 Mac Pro 7,1).

I'm thinking of making a payed-only version for Linux, maybe.

I hope so. I think it’s important to highlight Linux actually saves many computers from going into the trash. A common and major problem with most if not all Linux distros is fan control especially for laptops. For example, I am forced to use Ubuntu on a Cleve laptop only because it has fan control. Hope you consider this during your evaluation of whether to proceed. On Sep 12, 2023, at 5:55 PM, Kleuter @.***> wrote: I'm thinking of making a payed-only version for Linux, maybe.
