To be honest I just wish Cryptomator was also available as a plugin for some Android file managers like Solid Explorer, which can already deal with all sorts of remote services..

Until we implement this feature, you can use applications such as https://github.com/wa2c/cifs-documents-provider which will connect to your SMB share and create a document provider for us to use. You can then connect to the document provider using the "Local Storage" cloud connection in Cryptomator and add/create vaults using the document provider which uses the SMB connection under the hood.
