Problem: Missing support of WalletConnect 2.0

Background

Desktop Wallet only supports WalletConnect 1.0, while a growing number of wallets are now supporting WalletConnect 2.0 (https://explorer.walletconnect.com/?version=2). It's foreseeable that we have to support both 1.0 & 2.0 in a not distant future.

Takeaways

  • Supporting walletConnect 2.0 on Wallet is one thing. DApps also need to migrate to 2.0. Once the Wallets reach a significant quota of Wallets supporting v2.0, then DApps will migrate to 2.0. Before that, all DApps will stick with 1.0.
  • WalletConnect 2.0 is NOT backwards-compatible with 1.0
  • Wallets can support both versions in parallel
