Wireframe representation manipulate tool behaves differently than ball and stick

The manipulate tool does not work similarly on wireframe representation and ball and stick representation. This was shown to me at a conference on a Windows machine, therefore I am reporting it. If this is by design, feel free to close this.

I know the wireframe makes it hard to click on things - but it should move similarly. Can you give more details on what's different?

I was testing this out and it seems nearly impossible to click atoms in the manipulate tool. Therefore when using the manipulate tool new users feel like it is exactly similar to the navigation tool. I think we should make some virtual space around atoms in wireframe representation for ease of use.
