Stuck loading modules

Open Chazy12 opened this issue 1 month ago • 37 comments

On Linux mint 22.2 it's stuck on loading modules.

Chazy12 avatar Oct 26 '25 20:10 Chazy12

Same issue. Freezes on loading additional modules. Tried multiple times with and without preinstalling wine, the script would just remove the version I had and install the newest. As well as trying to install yad first. System info and last chunk of terminal output uploaded in txt

Same here, it seems stuck while loading the "uiHelper" module (I don't know if this can give some clue). I know it because I executed the .exe via the wine cmd prompt and it's kind of verbose. It seems to cause an stack overflow in my end.

I'm using Arch (latest version) with KDE on Wayland.

Think that's the key. There is reports in the Fusion support and an official "solution" where it hangs at that point do to a graphics issue. Alot of times it's because of using multiple monitors. https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Fusion-360-does-not-launch-when-using-two-monitors.html

But it maybe also possible that in Linux we may need to force it to X11 rather than Wayland

I've tried withWINE_DISABLE_WAYLAND=1 arg, and no difference. I've tried what the solution says (setting in the wineprefix the env variable QT_OPENGL to software and even tried with the wine cmd to echo %QT_OPENGL% to ensure it was set, and executed the .exe from the same cmd. Also nothing changed.

I'm desperate.

I am having this issue as well with KDE Wayland

@maduranma @dahliamoth did you happen to find a solution?

@maduranma @dahliamoth did you happen to find a solution?

Negative, I’ve tried everything I could think of but no luck, we need some expert to take a look at the log and maybe know what calls are being made to wine and the cause, but I see that every day more people has this problem so I guess it might have to do with an update.

maduranma avatar Oct 28 '25 01:10 maduranma

@maduranma @dahliamoth did you happen to find a solution?

not yet. I did try unplugging second monitor, that didnt help. but when i plugged it back in the window was black rather than stuck on the loading screen. and it hard locks eventually and can't shut it down. requiring a reboot.

dahliamoth avatar Oct 28 '25 18:10 dahliamoth

attached is a crashlog that the system saved. was one of the early attempts at installing it, usually it hangs requiring manually killing and never crashes. appeared to crash on a regedit command referencing fake japanese text replacement

I think im having this same issue. The progress bar is stuck at 3/4 of the way, but there's still a lot of output in the terminal, but I think it's just repeating the same thing over and over

In my case the wine output indicates a stack overflow and then yep just the same, but it’s not important I think.

maduranma avatar Oct 29 '25 02:10 maduranma

Same issue on Ubuntu 24.04

Digitiain avatar Oct 29 '25 13:10 Digitiain

From what I’m seeing here it seems something recent of the latest versions, as this issue wasn’t reported before until recently.

maduranma avatar Oct 29 '25 14:10 maduranma

It looks like others have experienced this or similar issues in the last few months (https://github.com/cryinkfly/Autodesk-Fusion-360-for-Linux/issues/599 https://github.com/cryinkfly/Autodesk-Fusion-360-for-Linux/issues/553) and it seems to be something that people are experiencing before having the follow-up issue of not being able to login (https://github.com/cryinkfly/Autodesk-Fusion-360-for-Linux/issues/512 https://github.com/cryinkfly/Autodesk-Fusion-360-for-Linux/issues/562).

But I've not yet been able to get the solutions to work yet. Not helped by my non-familiarity with Wine, I'm sure. Ideally these would be incorporated in the install, if they're accepted solutions, but I appreciate that this is FOSS.

I think this issue is related to wine wersion, got this issue on Gentoo with wine-staging 10.17
Yesterday I tried installing fusion360 with wine-staging 10.11. I succesfully signed in, but after that program stucked at "Connecting to your data" (Issue #569) I decided to update wine-staging to 10.17, but now fusion360 stucks at loading modules

UPD: I succesfully installed Fusion360 with regular wine wine "<location of AdskIdentityManager.exe>" "PASTE adskidmgr:/login LINK HERE"

But it again stucked at "Connecting to your data"

UPD 2: I tried installing fusion360 with wine vanilla 9.0.1 and in stucked at "Connecting to your data" like with vanilla10.0 Also I tried https://github.com/str0g/Autodesk-Fusion360-Linux with wine-staging 10.17, vanilla 9.0.1 and 10.0 10.17 was stucking at loading modules 10.0 and 9.0.1 stucked at "Connecting to your data" More details and my system info is described here https://github.com/str0g/Autodesk-Fusion360-Linux/issues/9

The bottles environment calls for the caffe 9.2 or 9.7 runner. I got fusion running on both all the way up to the login screen. I had difficulty figuring out the login workaround (it was 2am at that point, cut me some slack) So between that and your results with an earlier wine version, that leads to believe that it is something causing incompatibility in new versions of wine

dahliamoth avatar Nov 01 '25 00:11 dahliamoth

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56915

Wine 10.18 states it implements a fix for Fusion Get User Language. But that doesn't appear to fix this issue.

I've just tried this other script (with wine 10.18) and got the same issue, stuck loading modules. I'd be happy if people that already had it installed could try it on the latest wine version, or share which one are they running it on.

Also I'm using wayland, has anyone tried on X11?

The OP of this thread as well as I am using Linux Mint. Mint defaults to X11. You have to go out of your way to run wayland and it's experimental in Mint. So it's not that. This has got to be an issue between either a wine version or autdesk updating something. The bottles version will load, short of having to do a work around to get logged in. Until someone can figure this out, I'm just going to keep using VMWare Win11 install for Fusion

dahliamoth avatar Nov 02 '25 04:11 dahliamoth

Okey, I just was able to enter fusion360 by downgrading from Wine 10.18 to Wine 10.0: On arch:

sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/w/wine/wine-10.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

Seems like in wayland is kind of unstable graphically speaking, you must kind of move around to get it render and not being a black screen, and it takes some changes of focus in order for it to take keyboard input. It's not a usable experience but at least it runs for simple modifications of old projects.

Make sure to kill wineserver processes before updating.

This did fix the issue for me on arch as well. Thanks for the suggestion. The performance is terrible and there are many graphical glitches, but it does at least open. One step closer.

humlg avatar Nov 04 '25 16:11 humlg

Yep. Thats where i ended up on Mint with X11 as well. Loaded into fusion using wine 10.0. Graphical issues making it unusable.

dahliamoth avatar Nov 04 '25 16:11 dahliamoth

I feel like each wine version regressions occur, a couple of months ago updating wine made it so that I could not use any windows except for Fusion while it was open on my wayland session. Although it could have been KDE updating at the same time that caused the issue.

Downgrade Wine to 10.14, it works.

maduranma avatar Nov 07 '25 12:11 maduranma

Can confirm wine 10.14 makes it run great. I had to replace QtWebEngineCore.dll using the .7z downloaded by the installer script manually, but after doing that and setting the compat setting in the preferences menu its running great.
