Bottles (Flatpak) - Fusion 360 won't launch after Flatpak Bottles Fresh Install on Ubuntu Kubuntu 20.04.5

Open willmcginnis opened this issue 3 years ago • 10 comments

Describe the bug Pressing the "Play" button in the Bottles Flatpak next to "Autodesk Fusion 360" has a popup message that says " 'Launching Autodesk Fusion 360...' " and changes to a "Stop" button for a few seconds then turns back to the "Play" button. Fresh install of the Bottles Flatpak. Fresh Kubuntu 20.04.5 LTS install in VMware Fusion with 8 processor cores and 16 GiB of RAM.

Please let me know if you need any additional information. I would love to be able to use Fusion 360 on just my Linux, like people seem to be able to with modern triple A video games! I love the concept.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Install Kubuntu 20.04 LTS desktop in a VM.
  2. Install all updates
  3. In a terminal Konsole run the command to install Flatpak: "sudo apt install flatpak"
  4. Download the "com.usebottles.bottles.flatpakref" from Bottles https://usebottles.com/download/
  5. Double-click the .flatpakref file to open in Discover, click button to add Flatpak support, close the window
  6. Double-click the .flatpak ref file again to open in discover and click button to install Bottles now
  7. Once Bottles is installed, open Bottles, click on the "+" (Plus) icon in the upper left to add a "New Bottle". I named it "Fusion".
  8. Click on the bottle that was just made, go to "Installers", click on "Autodesk Fusion 360", and click on the blue "Start Installation" button
  9. In the Bottle under a bold heading that says "Programs" see that "Autodesk Fusion 360" is listed and click on the "Play" triangle button.
  10. Fusion 360 doesn't launch

Expected behavior Fusion 360 should begin to load and there should be a prompt to login or at least to install.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • Version number of Autodesk Fusion 360 Whatever the latest is that the Bottles installer installed (I'm not sure where to check)
  • Graphics card model + Graphics card driver (Version number) VMware SVGA II Adapter
  • Operating system (OpenSUSE Leap 15.3, Fedora 34, ...) Kubuntu 20.04.5
  • Desktop environment (XFCE 4.16, Gnome 40, ...) KDE 5.68.0 / Plasma 5.18.8
  • DXVK- or OpenGL-Mode DXVK, I think

Additional context This is probably a simple error and I don't know what the easy fix is.

Googling about each of the lines starting with "002c:err" have people talk about video games that worked after installing more DLLs. So maybe it just needs more DLLs.

The initial install of Bottles took about 10-15 minutes. Then installing Fusion 360 took somewhere more than 20 minutes, maybe even 30-40 minutes.

Running Bottles from a terminal gives the following output (also in the screenshot above):

The main part of the output I think is relevant:

19:29:26 (WARNING) Windows path detected. Avoiding validation.

Facing the same issue on Arch Linux / Steam OS 3.3 on the Steam Deck. Fresh install through Bottles flatpack, but nothing launches. Browsing the Wine files also doesn't show any "Autodesk" directory under C:\Users\deck\AppData\Local, where it should normally be after installing.
I also tried launching the Fusion installer exe using the bottles configuration, but that only resulted in a crash report from the installer :(

Hello Chaphasilor, were you able to get this working on the steam deck? Feel like I've tried everything but had no success.

MrArtyy avatar Jun 02 '23 06:06 MrArtyy

@Chaphasilor no, I've resorted to using Steam Remote Play / Parsec for streaming from a VM instead :(

Chaphasilor avatar Jun 07 '23 21:06 Chaphasilor

@Chaphasilor Ah okay, thanks for the reply. If I get anywhere with this i'll let you know :)
