The 2020-03 changes

These are a few changes I was working on for a while until I had to leave development for a while. As messed-up as it is and can be, it is still pretty much unfinished and needs some work.

At least in api, there's not much done other than:

• [ ] Show an 'error' status when couldn't contact portals (which needs to be done another way or it can cause a hell of flood of retries)
• [ ] Add hoverIcon for a different way for animated avatars (which needs to be properly done since it won't work sometimes)
• [X] Misc changes
