Should Elixr have the option to allow NON-mods the ability to continue viewing deleted messages

Open SReject opened this issue 5 years ago • 3 comments

After hearing concerns related to Elixr allowing non-modded users the ability to continue viewing messages that were marked as deleted, we have removed the feature from Elixr while the topic is being discussed.

To be clear:

  • The feature removed is related only to non-modded users.
  • The Mixer native feature that allows mods and channel owners the ability to see deleted messages remains intact.
  • The Elixr feature that allows mods and channel owners the ability to see mod actions (who deleted a message, timeouts, & bans) was not removed and remains available.

We are looking for community feed back on whether this feature should or should not be included in Elixr. Please comment your thoughts on the matter below

From a channel owner and moderator for another channel:

  • It's nice to be able to blur (during stream, if your chat is showing on stream)
  • It's also nice as a moderator to be able to see them for what they were
  • In either case it's nice to see all mod actions including timeout, ban, purge, and who deleted a specific message

This helps owners prevent moderator abuse and keeps their stream cleaner when chat is displayed on stream. I for one am not too big on censorship but in all honesty somethings just don't need to be said in an otherwise fun and, hopefully, friendly area.

Happy coding.

Hi @ZoeS17, thanks for the feedback! I just want to clarify a couple things because I realized it wasn't initially clear in the OP:

  • The feature that we removed from Elixr (and the one this post is about) is the feature that allowed regular non-modded users the ability to see deleted messages.
  • The Mixer native feature that allows mods and channel owners the ability to see deleted messages remains intact.
  • The Elixr feature that allows mods and channel owners the ability to see mod actions (who deleted a message, timeouts, & bans) was not removed and remains available.

So in other words, this Issue ticket is asking: Should or shouldn't Elixr allow regular non-modded users the ability to also see messages deleted by moderators?

Often, even when I'm not modded in a chat, I want to know what's going on in moderated conversations, and know what someone got banned for. Sometimes it's something that the particular channel doesn't appreciate (in Twitch this might be ASCII art, on Mixer it's usually just a line of discussion people don't wanna deal with, politics, copypastas, etc.) but I might still want to read, or see. I would appreciate still being able to see these things, even when I'm not a mod.
