Creating keyboard shortcut to open History as Library window

Is there a way to assign a shortcut to the menu item "History" - "Show All history" aka "History in the Library window" (instead of the sidebar)?

2 motivations:

  • I use the Tree Style Tab extension and hence the sidebar is already in use.
  • The sidebar is too narrow to make the history in the sidebar useful (to me) as I need to see the page title, URL and the last-visited date!

I am using Firefox on MacOS. Currently in the "History" menu there is only "Command+Shift+H" assigned to "History in Sidebar". I would like to assign Command+Shift+H to open History in separate (Library) Window.

I was wondering: Is the "Library window" maybe (implemented as) a Firefox internal "App" that one could access in Shortcut Preferences via the "Launch App" functionality ??

The menu path for this feature on Windows seems to be slightly different; it's “History” > “Manage history”.

Anyway, extensions are limited to what the browser allows. After perusing the Firefox web extension API, Firefox appears to not expose this functionality in its web extension API, so this seems to not be possible via an extension.

@tylercrompton how about Chrome?

Reasoning: I've always found MacOS's cmd+H = "hide app" useless, and I've always wanted that shortcut to open the history tab instead, like ctrl+H does on win/linux. ...Hmm, looking at the problem with fresh eyes today, it appears these shortcuts can be remapped via MacOS's keyboard settings, so I'll go that route.

Nonetheless, this extension supports opening Settings & Extensions tabs, so it seems natural to also support opening the History tab.
