icon is too disturbing. could id be grey scaled maybe?

You can disable the icon on selection or style it with CSS in Saladict Options.

it is about the icon in the toolbar/address bar

You mean the Saladict icon on the browser address bar? That is not customizable.

You may hide it though. Right click the icon and choose "Unpin".

it is gray on websites but not if i open a new/empty tab: 2022-07-26_041831 2022-07-26_041806

This is not configurable. It reflexes the extension active state.

what do you mean? why would it be active when opening a new tab? also it stays grey if i click on it and search. only gets colored if open new tab.

Hover the mouse onto the icon you'll see a poptip explaining why it's grey. There is a delay before Saladict actually knows if it can be injected into the page during which it fallbacks to a default (colored) state.

I could check the url proptocal ahead to have a saner default state though. That could reduce the blink on new tab.
