Photos for blog posts often get cropped in strange ways when featured

The way that photos that accompany blog posts render when they show up as previews on either CC's homepage or on https://creativecommons.org/blog/ is often not ideal -- more often than not, the way they are automatically cropped cuts out heads or other critical parts of the image.
