No functionality to block updates? Suggestion!

I saw this program being offered as an alternative to an older program that's not being maintained anymore < https://github.com/WindowsLies/BlockWindows/issues/44 >, however unlike BlockWindows this does not seem to replicate the same functionality in stopping the spyware/malware ''updates'' that Microsoft have been pushing to Windows 7/8/10 ever since the announcement of Windows 10, is there any plans to do that, or if not do you recommend any other programs? Ancile was a replacement for Aegis but that hasn't been updated since 2016 now either, hm.

Over at https://gist.github.com/xvitaly/eafa75ed2cb79b3bd4e9 they have created a very simple workaround to uninstall specific bad updates so far but again like Ancile it's not been updated since 2016! Though the comments thread is useful (I am replying to add my own research there now)

Thanks for any info, and good luck with the good fight, like many others I will finally be making the jump to focus on Linux soon, since we have been given a deadline in the form of security updates for Windows 7 from Microsoft stopping and putting computers at risk in 2020 - probably PureOS or Linux Mint.

Hi @TNW9imKLC3fv,

At the moment WindowsSpyBlocker is not planned to interact deeply with the Windows system by deleting KBs or modifying the registry. This is something I had thought about at the time but I found the workload compared to its added value too high while the implementation of network rules will hardly change the user's system. This largely avoids regression and user frustration.

Maybe these projects can fit your needs :

  • https://github.com/W4RH4WK/Debloat-Windows-10
  • https://github.com/Disassembler0/Win10-Initial-Setup-Script

Anyway thanks for your interest in WindowsSpyBlocker!

I like that WindowsSpyBlocker does not interact deeply with the Windows system, and instead only with host and ip blocking via the Firewall. Today Windows notified me with some new updates although I already applied the Spy and the Update blocking rules with the latest version of WSB. I am considering a new, but not expensive, router where I can do DNS blacklist/blocking and add the blocking rules. of WSB. If you have any recommendation on a specific router (like ASUS XX for example), I would appreciate it 👍 Also, thanks a lot for your commitment on this project ^^

If you are experienced enough you can use OPNSense which has the WSB blocking rules pre-integrated. And install it on an appliance with Intel NICs.
