Sound Blaster Audigy outputs continuous loud noise upon SBEMU launch

Open jclecak opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

IMG_2645 please see the screenshot sbemu is not detecting any IRQ conflict and appears to be successfully running at 220, 7, 1 however, when the 'start playback' message appears, loud noise is emitted from the speakers then when I launch Doom, for example, it says sound blaster is not responding and the loud noise continues btw I do see JemmEx is detecting regions that "might be in use" - not sure if this could be causing the issue or how to resolve it this may boil down to user error - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, please and thank you!

Which model number is your Audigy? There are quite a few different Audigy models, including ones that don't have an EMU chip. I have a SB0570 here that has the same behavior, but it's an "Audigy SE/LE" with a different chip (CA0106) and IIRC even the Linux driver has some issues with output volume / quality (on Linux, I was able to get it kind-of working [with some issues] when disabling SPDIF in alsamixer).

thank you for the info, @thp - I see that my card is SB0570, as well. can anyone recommend a particular model that is sbemu compatible, readily available (on ebay) and inexpensive?

Have you checked if you motherboard has on-board sound? AC97 and HDA (+ some others) are well supported by SBEMU, no need to buy extra hardware.
