This is configurable already. In the admin page of News (or whatever hooked module you are using) look at the last menu option "Services". From there select "PostCalendar Hook Options"...

ok - I understand what you mean. Allowing the creator to opt in/out is not the goal - setting the default setting (checked/not) but still allowing the creator to choose.
