Reported extraction percentage jumps to 100% early for some users

Open dk865 opened this issue 11 months ago • 5 comments

Describe the Bug

When I try to extract the contents of a VPK using any of the Linux Release Builds, (on Ubuntu or Zorin OS (Ubuntu Base)) it says 100% immediately when pressing extract, and the application doesn't do anything else. However, it still does extract the contents, it just doesn't update the extraction percent.

To Reproduce

Open any Linux (GUI) Build, choose any VPK from any game (Tested P2, P1, HL2), and extract.

Weird, I can't reproduce this on Windows but I have no idea why the behavior would be different on Linux. I'll try on my Linux machine in a day or two and see if it happens there

After looking back at it, I think that it only shows the percentage for some preparation stage. It goes up to 100% but only takes a few moments. Then it starts extracting, (from what I can see in the files) and just stays at 100% until it finishes.

After switching to Windows 10, I notice the same issue. Could this mean it's a hardware issue? It is a pretty old computer- made in 2009 for Windows 7...

I checked some Source engine discord servers and it looks like other people are having this issue, they're just not reporting it. I'll try looking at the code again later to find where it could be going wrong

Got the same issue doing an 'extract all' action on Windows 11 23H2, 4.4.2: first stage goes to 100%, but wouldn't get reset for the second extracting one; while the main window gets locked, until the full extraction completes in the background.

I also had previous 4.3.1 portable folder, I think, I hadn't such issue with (2 stages were displayed correctly) on Win10 in the past. But using the same 4.3.1 folder currently on Win11 shows this problem as well.
