The problem you are facing

I sometimes want to only replace variable names within a certain method/portion of code.

Describe the feature you'd like

It would be nice if you could add a Find + Replace within the current selection i.e. only within the highlighted portion.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Currently, you can copy the selected text to a new tab to use replace all. Editors will remember the selection for each tab, which allows you to copy them back quickly. Of course, this is just a temporary solution.

@neko-para I would like to work on this enhancement if no one else is working on it. Thanks!
