Google has a history of just getting rid of extensions they don't like or just for no reason, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case.

Just look at what happened to universal bypass on their FAQ:

"Why is Universal Bypass not on the Chrome Web Store? Google took it down for apparently "circumventing paywalls." I have clarified that Universal Bypass is more of an adblocker and asked for details of where paywalls are circumvented, but it's Google, so of course I didn't get a response."

• Go to chrome://extensions/
• Enable "Developer mode"
• Go to https://github.com/cowlicks/privacypossum/tags
• Download the newest zip
• Drag and drop into chrome://extensions/

I followed your instructions, but after dropping the .zip file into chrome://extensions, I get this message:

Failed to load extension from: /home/leslie/Downloads/Packages/Non-RPMs/Linux/ChromeBrowser/privacypossum-2019.7.18.zip. Could not unzip extension for install.
