Youtube embeds (BIG ISSUE-might only impact me tho)

Open SailLively opened this issue 4 years ago • 7 comments

addon version 2019.7.18 firefox version 85.0.2 (64-bit) https://www.point-sourceaudio.com/2018/01/25/how-to-properly-coil-microphone-cables/ I cannot play and just pinpointed it to this today. I don't know if this is a known issue and It might block it because it is trying to access my google account and send targeted videos as well but I would like an option for it to not. Google has my data and It would get it anyway if I saw it on their website. Please fix. Let me know if you want more info.

Issue reproducible for me as well. Error mentions "an error occurred". Works when extension is disabled.

I've been trying to figure out what was causing this for a while now. Finally narrowed it down to Privacy Possum

I've gotten the same issue. I was using the chordify wesite and received this error (Playback ID: u3kxiblVQPK1q_ZU)

Same, completely cripples YT over the web, only works on youtube.com

This is a duplicate of https://github.com/cowlicks/privacypossum/issues/278 though

This issue is even more impactful in private Google Drive videos as you cannot go over YouTube to watch them. Basically you would not be able to play the video until the add-on is disabled. As a workaround to users, Google Drive should be whitelisted until the issue is fixed. DuckDuckGo warns users that Google does not allow users to watch videos anonymously, so maybe this is the cause of the issue.

Hi, I'm getting the same issue, also with a variety of videos, not just Youtube. I checked the console and it gives me a 401 Unauthorized Error, which might be what's happening across a number of the other issues, including things like inability to login or access certain pages.

Please see the earlier issue #278, which this is a duplicate of, for my comments on reproducing this. I highly recommend that everyone comments on that issue, #278, instead of this one such that all the information is gathered in one place.

cowlicks, the maintainer of Privacy Possum, has not been active in issues since 2019 so it is unlikely he will respond. But perhaps a kind soul will attempt to figure out the root cause and maybe submit a patch. Multiple issues will not draw any more attention, only make it more difficult to fix.
