Region Descriptors

Hi

It would be really great if this data contained descriptors for the region for each country - e.g. State for USA, County for UK, Province for Canada.

Is that viable or is there another dataset somewhere that has that info?

Excellent idea, @rcwwilliams! One issue I could see with this was figuring out all the different terms - we know of the common ones of course, but many countries have divisions other than states, provinces, counties etc. Hmm...

Has any progress been made to this? I too am interested in this. Would be very useful for the dropdown. For example, American users are not used to selecting "Select Your Region" from a dropdown, that is not at all a common way of describing your State and I think most people would be confused by this label, so if we could dynamically change the label that would be great. Might even be a good starting point just to get the common ones in there and default the less common ones to "region"

To be clear, I'd be willing to contribute to this as best I can.

Sites using Shopify's checkout form are able to dynamically update the region input based on the country input like https://www.tluxe.com/ as an example. (You need to add an item to the cart and go to the checkout stage to see an example)
