App icon appears stuck in the middle top of the screen

Hello, thank you for this badly missing feature in Cosmic DE.

At launch, the applet icon icon is in the upper top of the screen (like a mini window), instead of being in the panel I guess.

Can be moved to another place like a window, and if minimized by a click on the dock icon, return at this place when again maximized.

Yeah, this is because you need to add it to the panel using cosmic-settings

Thank you,

adding it to the panel using cosmic-settings does not work either :

it open the applet, still in the app part of the dock (and not the panel) with the icon still in the middle or no icon and when I click it, there are several icons (see screenshot)

Forgot to specify that this happens with

Fedora Cosmic Atomic 42 With Cosmic epoch alpha 7

So maybe this issue should have been made there ? https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch

It also happens with the minimon applet.

Same here; CachyOS with Cosmic e7

I have no idea what could cause this issue

Same thing happens on EndeavourOS RC

Also getting this exact behaviour. I was sort of able to add some applets to the panel, like clipboard manager, minimon, and pop logo menu. It glitched out, so I logged out and back in to shake out any cobwebs, but the issue remained:

It seems to simply place these custom panel applets into the regular window space, as floating windows, albeit windows that we can't move or resize. For me, the issue seems to corelate with applets that are installed via flatpak. I've been having issues building clipboard manager from source, but I'll revisit it and report and findings back here.

UPDATE: Building from source is even worse. The app doesn't appear as a floating window OR in the panel, making it inaccessible.

UPDATE 2.0: After removing the other flatpak applets I had installed (CosmicLogMenu, minimon-applet, weather-applet) my natively-built clipboard manager worked just fine!

Hello, yes, also for me it is the flatpak applets that are troublesome.

Good that it works when natively built 👍

How do you build it ?

Hello, yes, also for me it is the flatpak applets that are troublesome.

How do you build it ?

Pull the git repo to your local machine, go into the directory and run these commands:

just build
sudo just install

And don't forget to read the README for prequisites and configuration. Like all Cosmic apps (I believe) this is coded in Rust, so you need some Rust tools installed. But, that should do the trick!

However, I also learned that we can get the flatpak applets working by updating Cosmic, as the one bundled with Fedora Cosmic Spin (if that's what you're using) is outdated and has more bugs. For this, you'll want to add the ryanabx:cosmic-epoch copr repo. Follow this page for instructions: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/ryanabx/cosmic-epoch/

Ran into this issue as well on Nixos 25.05 Running Cosmic DE Alpha 7

The problem seems to be permissions for the flatpak I used flatseal to enable the "Inherit Wayland socket" option and that gave me the desired result

Problem solved after update to Cosmic epoch-1.0.0-beta.1
