What this PR does: Edits the error message and documentation for the format of the alertmanager discovery URL for clarity.

Which issue(s) this PR fixes: There's no outstanding issue, but the issue was discussed in Slack here

cc @bboreham or @ShuzZzle , any chance either of you could chime in on this? We chatted in the cortex slack a couple weeks back. I understand the code doesn't seem to align with the proposed text here, but I've confirmed the results from testing several configs.

Hey all! Just wanted to check if there's anything else I should be doing with this commit. I've seen a number of other people have issues with alertmanager config in the Cortex Slack, I think it would be great to get this in to help people who run into this misconfiguration!
