Exact dimensions of the base

Open anemri opened this issue 7 years ago • 3 comments

Hello, we are thinking of designing a 3D-printed microdrive to facilitate the implantation of the neuropixels probe. For that we need the exact dimensions of the PCB and base. So far I only found that the base is 9x6 mm. Is this information available in the imec manual mentioned here: https://github.com/cortex-lab/neuropixels/wiki? If yes, could someone post the pdf or a link to it?

And if not, does anyone here have those numbers handy? Best, Abdel

Here are some images for phase3a. If you mean phase3b, let me know. Unfortunately these are not very exact measurements (maybe someone else on here has made some?). Note that the "base" which is ~6x9mm does not include the rigid PCB (green in the images below) which as you can see is larger.

Hi @anemri -- we've developed a system to do this and are happy to share. We're actually putting together a protocol paper which should be online with designs in the next month. To give you an idea, this is what it looks like. The internal mount & external casing are 3D printed, the stereotax adapter is machined in metal, and interfaces with a standard size stereotax piece.

@nsteinme Thanks! These dimensions are a good start to think about designs. I'm guessing the IMEC manual doesn't document this aspect of the probes. 3a/b is not clear yet, I've been approached by a lab who knows about our previous work with silicon probe microdrives. I'll try to get a broken probe.

@ajuavinett This looks like a really neat encasing! I particularly like the rail system. Happy to print and test it out. We have a couple of alternative designs in mind, if they don't work out we'll recommend your encasing :)
