Non-GitHub user registration leads to an HTTP 500 error, and no activation email is sent
When trying to get registered just now, I've hit a 500 error which means I'm unable to activate my account to sign in.
Not super urgent, but thought I'd flag it up in case it's not known!
I am facing same error - cannot register with non-github account.
Thank you. We've been using SendGrid to send emails. They seem to have changed their email policies & now aren't sending our emails. I realize that we weren't paying, but a little notification would have been nice before cutting us off :-(.
I've talked with OpenSSF leadership & Linux Foundation IT. My plan is to switch to AWS's email service. It's not free, but I estimate it'll cost about $4/year and LF IT will make sure it keeps working.
I'm very sorry for the problem. I intend to get this fixed ASAP.
I got the info I need, now I need to implement it. Sorry for the delay.
Hi @david-a-wheeler, can I check if this issue has been resolved?
I've been trying to create a custom account but can't seem to receive the activation email. This is despite a 200 OK response and the webpage showing a banner telling me to check my inbox.
Thanks in advance for your help!
To my knowledge that problem has been completely resolved.
SendGrid changed their policies, briefly quietly dropping all our send emails without telling us. This did not help us :-(. We switched email providers. I've tested it several ways & it all seemed to work. That was a while ago.
You can always try to "register again", if you aren't already registered, it will resend the activation email. I suggest trying that first.
If you still aren't getting an activation email, that's a surprise. You probably don't want your email address recorded here, so privately send me your email address to me at: dwheeler (AT) linuxfoundation (DOT) org. I can at least see if you're in the database. We definitely want this to reliably work.
Sorry for the problems!
Thanks David for the quick response. I've tried registering again twice now, and both times I waited for more than a day without receiving any emails (I checked my spam and junk folders as well).
At this point I think I'll have to trouble you to check if I'm in the database. Will send you an email from the address I'm trying to register with!
This is very concerning. Per my separate email, this account is the database, waiting for an activation that for some reason never occurs.
To ensure you're not stuck, I force-validated the account. We'll want to track down what's going on, but I don't want you to be stuck waiting.
