Leaflet maps freeze on Safari

When dragging to pan the map on Safari Version 8.0.8 (10600.8.9) the map frequently freezes and stays that way indefinitely (cannot be panned, does not react) while the rest of the application remains operational.

I see a similar issue although not as severe; again in Safari 8.0.8 (10600.8.9) the map will freeze momentarily while loading tiles. It's possible of course that I have a better connection than Andrew and tiles load more quickly, so the issue doesn't seem as severe. I think Andrew and I have more or less exactly the same computer.
