Tried Mutagen?

In reading " In some setups (we're looking at you, macOs) this can be slow" in the README.md , just fyi, we've used Mutagen in combination with Docksal (ie docker) to make the file sync almost instantaneous.

So this is not an "issue" per say, but a suggestion & recommendation. Github issue queue probably not the place for it. BUT you could update your README.md if you give it a try and include a mutagen.yml in your repo.
