Add social media badges to the main repository README
Problem
The main repository README includes various badges (CI, license, etc.) but lacks social media badges, missing an opportunity to promote community engagement.
Solution
Add social media badges to the README alongside existing badges for CI, license, and other metrics.
Acceptance criteria
- [ ] Add badges for all active social media accounts (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Mastodon, etc.)
- [ ] Position badges appropriately with the existing badge layout
- [ ] Ensure badges follow consistent styling
- [ ] Consider using SVG badges for better quality and performance
- [ ] Test badge links work correctly
- [ ] Verify badges display properly in both light and dark themes
Badge types to include
- Twitter/X
- Mastodon
- YouTube (if applicable)
- Any other active social platforms (see https://github.com/podman-desktop/podman-desktop/issues/12040#issuecomment-2876502921)
Technical notes
- Consider using shields.io or a similar badge service for consistency
- Follow existing badge styling patterns in the repository
- Consider grouping social badges separately from technical badges
Additional context
Suggested during the UX Check-in meeting as a way to increase social media visibility directly from the main repository.

@vancura can you please add links for the relevant badges you mentioned in the README?
@cdrage: Can you pretty please help me with this? This is kind of work you'd be quickly done with it, faster than me.
Hi guys! Do you please have more information here? @vancura were you referring to this README?
Yes, I was, but not just that. See https://github.com/podman-desktop/podman-desktop/blob/main/README.md, which is shown as the content of https://github.com/podman-desktop/podman-desktop. I bet it's the first content most of our users see.
I thought about using something super simple like what's on the Apify profile:
See these badges on top? They can help us drive people towards our social accounts more effectively.
So for inspiration and reference, I'll use our new community page: https://podman-desktop.io/community
@vancura given how many badge there are towards the top here, where would you like to position these badges? In place of the existing Social Networks links?
I added them to the README, next to the links for now - please let me know your thoughts:
I can move them / replace the links, if we decide to do so.
Looks good, I'd just left-align them, but that is definitely a subjective feeling. Up to you!
@vancura do you feel we need both badges and links or should we rather separate them more? I would probably consider the Overview section for the badges, if we choose to keep both.
We shouldn't generally duplicate the content, so I think just badges are fine.
Looks great!

I apologize! Just saw this ping now :) Feel free to point out which you need help with / PM me
Hi @cdrage no worries! If you'd like, please check this readme and see if it looks ok: https://github.com/podman-desktop/podman-desktop/issues/12609#issuecomment-3044246578
Otherwise, I think this ticket is done.
